Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, located on the air cleaner outlet tube, measures the temperature of the incoming air.

OPERATION
The IAT sensor changes resistance in response to intake air temperature. Resistance decreases as the surrounding air temperature increases, providing a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) indicating temperature of the incoming intake air.
