Pinion Bearing: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Inspect rear axle pinion bearing cups.
2. If damaged, remove from rear axle housing casting by tapping alternately (with a brass drift of suitable length) on each side of the rear axle pinion bearing cups to prevent rear axle pinion bearing cups from cocking in the bore.

NOTE: To make sure rear axle pinion bearing cup seats properly, clean bores before installing rear axle pinion bearing cups.

INSTALLATION
Install the new cups with Pinion Bearing Cup Replacer T71P-4616-A. Make sure the rear axle pinion bearing cup/differential pinion bearing are properly seated in their bores. If a 0.033 mm (0.0015-inch) feeler gauge can be inserted between a cup and the bottom of its bore at any point around the cup, the cup is not properly seated. Whenever the rear axle pinion bearing cup/differential pinion bearing is replaced, the differential pinion bearing should also be replaced.
