Solenoids - Stuck Open

PROCEDURE
1. Connect the Rotunda Fuel Filter Neck Venting Kit 134-00117 and Rotunda Venting Hose 134-00118 or equivalents to the vent stack then to the vehicle fuel fill valve.

NOTE: Solenoid diagnostics must be completed on all tank solenoid valves prior to venting.

NOTE: All fuel tank solenoid valves should be in the locked down position.

2. Connect the Rotunda Grounding Cable 134-00121 or equivalent to the vehicle on the rear of the fuel filler valve assembly. Then connect the ground cable to earth ground.
3. Connect battery ground cable.

NOTE: Make sure battery is charged prior to venting.

4. Remove fuel pump relay from power distribution box.
5. Jumper fuel pump relay circuit from socket 87 to socket 30.

NOTE: Construct a jumper wire from 152 mm (6 inches) of 18 gauge wire and two spade terminal ends.

6. Slowly open the manual lockout valve on the stuck-open tank.
7. Slowly open the manual backflow valve on the fuel filler valve.
8. Read pressure on gauge located on the Rotunda Fuel Filter Neck Venting Kit 134-00117 or equivalent. Pressure should be at tank pressure if a fuel tank solenoid valve was identified as stuck open.
9. Slowly open the bleed valve on Rotunda Fuel Filter Neck Venting Kit 134-00117 or equivalent and allow contents of tank to vent to atmosphere. Venting may take over one hour.
10. Close the bleed valve on the Rotunda Fuel Filter Neck Venting Kit 134-00117 or equivalent and make sure fuel line pressure is at or near 0 kPa (0 psi).
11. Remove manual lock down valve.

Typical Electric Fuel Solenoid And Manual Override Tool:

12. Install the Rotunda Manual Override Tool 134-00050 or equivalent into the tank solenoid. Tighten to 38-43 Nm (28-31 lb ft).

WARNING: Make sure the jackscrew in the Rotunda Manual Override Tool 134-00050 or equivalent is retracted fully (counter clockwise) prior to installation into the tank solenoid valve. Installation of the override tool in the venting position will cause natural gas to be immediately released.

CAUTION: Once solenoid valve has been opened by use of Override Tool, the solenoid valve MUST be replaced.

13. Turn the Rotunda Manual Override Tool 134-00050 jackscrew clockwise until fuel flows.
14. Vent system until fuel flow stops.
15. Remove the Rotunda Manual Override Tool 134-00050 or equivalent.
16. Install the manual lock down valve into the fuel tank solenoid valve. Tighten to 38-43 Nm (28-31 lb ft).

NOTE: Make sure jackscrew is fully retracted.

17. Tighten manual lock down valve jackscrew to 7-9 Nm (62-79 lb in).
18. Repeat procedure until tanks are vented.
19. Close the manual backflow valve on the fuel filler valve when tank contents have vented. Tighten to 7-9 Nm (62-79 lb in).
