Removal

1. Remove wheel covers. Remove rear axle wheel hub retainers using a 36 mm socket. Loosen lug nuts.
2. Raise vehicle on a frame contact hoist.

CAUTION: A frame contact hoist must be used to avoid damage to the halfshafts or halfshaft boots.

3. Remove lug nuts and remove rear wheel and tire assemblies.
4. Remove brake drums.

5. Remove rear suspension arm and bushing bolt and nut. Wire rear suspension arm and bushing to the top of rear shock absorber to prevent interference during halfshaft removal.

6. Using a paint marker, mark the position of the rear suspension arm and bushing in relation to the rear wheel knuckle with the bushings in their relaxed position.

CAUTION: Failure to mark this position will result in bushing wind-up on assembly and incorrect ride height, causing misalignment and premature tire wear.

NOTE: When the rear suspension arm and bushing bolt is removed from the rear wheel knuckle, the bushings will return to their relaxed position.

7. Attach Front Hub Remover/Replacer TO1P-1104-C, Metric Hub Remover Adapters M 12 x 1.5 T83P-1104-BH and Hub Adapter T86P-1104-A1 to the wheel studs as shown. With wrench, turn nut counterclockwise while holding wrench on threaded rod stationary until halfshaft is free in rear hub.

8. Remove rear suspension arm and bushing to rear wheel knuckle retaining bolts.

9. Remove rear wheel knuckle from the driveshaft and joint.

10. Carefully rest halfshaft assembly on rear suspension arm and bushing and wire rear wheel knuckle assembly to top of rear shock absorber.

WARNING: EXTREME CARE MUST BE TAKEN NOT TO STRETCH, TWIST OR KINK REAR BRAKE HOSE.

11. Remove halfshaft assembly from rear axle housing using CV Joint Remover T89P-3514-A. Push tool outboard until inboard CV joint stub shaft pilot bearing housing becomes free from differential side gear.

CAUTION: Extreme care must be taken to prevent damage to inboard CV joint stub shaft pilot bearing housing seal, rear axle housing or rear axle CV joint boot.

12. Remove halfshaft assembly from vehicle.

13. Insert Differential Plug T89P-4850-B into rear axle housing to prevent lubricant loss.
