Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The vehicle speed sensor, also used for shock damping control, is located on the transmission and is used to establish the vehicle speed.
- The output current to the power steering control valve actuator is a function of the vehicle speed and the steering wheel rotation rate with vehicle speed as the primary input to the control module.
- When the vehicle speed is 8 km/h (5 mph) or less, the power steering control valve actuator output current is 0 mA and full power steering assist is provided.
- As the vehicle speed increases, the current increases.
- Conversely, as vehicle speeds decrease, the current decreases at approximately a linear rate.
