Headlamp Switch: Description and Operation
The headlamp switch:
- is a three-position switch:
- OFF
- PARK
- HEAD
- includes an integral 20-amp circuit breaker
- when in the PARK position (first detent) supplies power to:
- parking lamps
- rear lamps
- rear side marker lamps
- license plate lamps
- instrument panel illumination
- is provided ground through Circuit 57 (BK)
- when in the HEAD position (all the way out) provides power to:
- all of the lamps in the PARK position
- the headlamp dimmer switch (part of multifunction switch)
- also includes the dome lamp switch.
HEADLAMPS ON WARNING CHIME
The headlamps on warning chime:
- sounds when the headlamp switch is in PARK or HEAD and the driver's door is open.
- continues to sound until the headlamp switch is moved to OFF, the door is closed, or the ignition switch is switched to the RUN-START position.
- sounds if the ignition switch is switched from RUN-START to OFF while the headlamp switch is in PARK or HEAD and the driver door is closed. Then after a 20 second delay, the chime will sound for 12 repetitions.
LIGHT SWITCH RHEOSTAT RESISTOR
The instrument panel lamp circuit is routed through a light switch rheostat resistor on the thumbwheel located next to headlamp switch.
- Rotating the thumbwheel control knob varies illumination from dim to full-bright.
- Rotating the thumbwheel past the detent at full-bright turns on the dome lamp.
