Cruise Control Switch: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
WARNING
- THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT IS SERVICED.
- THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY AND BACKUP POWER SUPPLY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED FOR ONE MINUTE TO DE-ENERGIZE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
2. Disconnect positive battery cable and wait one minute for backup power supply to deplete its stored energy.
3. Remove two back cover plugs. Remove two screw and washer assemblies retaining driver side air bag module to steering wheel.
4. Disconnect air bag electrical connector from air bag sliding contact connector.
5. Remove driver side air bag module from steering wheel.
WARNING: PLACE AIR BAG MODULE ON BENCH WITH TRIM COVER FACING UP.
6. Disconnect speed control wire harness. Disconnect horn switch wire.
7. Remove four retaining screws from speed control actuator switch.
8. Carefully pry away RH side of steering wheel back cover to allow enough clearance to remove RH side speed control switch wiring from steering wheel. Repeat on the LH side and remove speed control actuator switch.
INSTALLATION
1. Carefully pry away RH side of the steering wheel back cover to allow enough clearance to insert RH side of the speed control switch wiring into steering wheel. Repeat on LH side.
2 Position speed control actuator switch onto steering wheel and install four Phillips-head screws.
3. Connect all harness connectors and route wiring in steering wheel cavity. Install wire organizer.
CAUTION: Make sure wires are positioned so no Interference is encountered when Installing air bag module.
4. Position driver side air bag module on steering wheel and connect air bag sliding contact.
5. Install driver side air bag module on steering wheel and install two screw and washer assemblies. Tighten to 10.2-13.8 N.m (91-122 lb-in).
6. Install two back cover plugs.
7. Reconnect positive battery cable.
8. Reconnect battery ground cable.
9. Check operation of speed control actuator switch.
10. Prove out air bag system.
