Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Remove fuel tank filler cap and release fuel tank pressure.
3. Perform fuel pressure release procedure.
4. Remove fuel injection supply manifold.

Fuel Injector:

5. Carefully remove fuel charging wiring from individual fuel injectors at the connectors as required.





6. Remove fuel injectors from the fuel injection supply manifold. Grasp fuel injector body and pull up while gently rocking fuel injectors from side to side.
7. Inspect fuel injector O-rings (two per fuel injector) for signs of deterioration. Replace as required.
8. Inspect fuel injector end cap, body and washer for signs of dirt and deterioration.

INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate new fuel injector O-rings with clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C 153-F.

CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. Silicone grease will clog the fuel Injectors.

2. Install fuel injectors into fuel injection supply manifold using a light, twisting-pushing motion.
3. Install fuel injection supply manifold.
4. Connect fuel charging wiring to fuel injectors.
5. Perform Post-Service Procedures. Service and Repair
