Headlamp Bulb: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Turn headlamp switch to the OFF position.
WARNING: THE REPLACEABLE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB CONTAINS GAS UNDER PRESSURE. THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB MAY SHATTER IF THE GLASS ENVELOPE IS SCRATCHED OR THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB IS DROPPED. HANDLE BULB CAREFULLY. GRASP HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB ONLY BY ITS PLASTIC BASE. AVOID TOUCHING GLASS ENVELOPE. KEEP HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
NOTE: A correctly aimed headlamp normally need not be re-aimed after installation of this headlamp bulb and retainer. A burned out headlamp bulb should not be removed from the headlamp until just before a replacement headlamp bulb and retainer is to be installed. Removal of a headlamp bulb for an extended period of time may allow contaminants (dust, moisture, smoke) to enter the headlamp and affect the performance of the headlamp. When servicing the headlamp bulb and retainer, energize the headlamp bulb only while it is contained within the headlamp body.
2. Lift the hood and find the bulb in the headlamp socket.
3. Remove the electrical connector from the bulb by grasping the wire with a quick pull rearward.
4. Remove the headlamp bulb retainer by turning it 1/8 of a turn to free it from the socket. Then slide the ring off the plastic base. Keep the headlamp bulb retainer to hold the new bulb in place.
INSTALLATION
1. With the flat side of the bulb's plastic base facing upward, insert the glass end of the bulb into the socket. Turn the bulb left or right to line up the grooves in the plastic base with the tabs in the socket. When the grooves are aligned, push the bulb into the socket until the plastic base contacts the rear of the socket.
2. Slip the headlamp bulb retainer over the plastic base until it contacts the rear of the socket. Lock the headlamp bulb retainer into the socket by rotating it clockwise until you feel a stop.
3. Push the electrical connector into the rear of the plastic base until it snaps, locking it into position.
4. Turn the headlamps on and make sure that they work properly. If the headlamp was correctly aimed before replacement, you should not need to adjust it.
5. Close hood.
