Parking Brake System: Description and Operation

OPERATION
The system is cable-actuated and controlled by an independent, foot-operated parking brake control. To apply parking brake, press parking brake control pedal downward.

RELEASE
To release parking brake, press parking brake control pedal downward and allow it to spring upward. The parking brake control will release with a click, the brake warning indicator will turn off, signaling that the parking brake is disengaged. After returning to the full OFF position, the parking brake control will reset itself to lock upon the next parking brake control application.

BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM
The parking brake warning indicator:
^ Is actuated by the parking brake signal switch on the parking brake control.
^ Warns the driver to release the parking brake control before driving the vehicle.
^ Is located in the LH bank of indicators below the instrument cluster.
^ If the indicator remains "ON" with the parking brake control released, a brake or warning indicator malfunction has occurred.
^ Will remain "ON" if either the parking brake has not released or there is a malfunction in the hydraulic brake system.

NOTE: When the parking brake is engaged, the brake warning indicator illuminates to signal the driver that the parking brake is applied.
