Replacement

Removing/Installing Master Cylinder Seal.:






CAUTION: The brake master cylinder reservoir and brake master cylinder filler cap gasket are serviced separately. The ABS brake master cylinder will not be overhauled, due to internal adjustments which require extensive special tools and fixtures.

REMOVAL
1. Apply the brake pedal several times to exhaust all vacuum in the system.
2. Disconnect the brake warning indicator switch connector.
3. Remove brake tubes from primary and secondary outlet ports of brake master cylinder.
4. Disconnect Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) supply hose at hydraulic control unit reservoir and secure in a position to prevent loss of brake fluid.
5. Remove two nuts retaining brake master cylinder to power brake booster assembly.
6. Slide brake master cylinder forward and upward from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Install a new seal in groove in brake master cylinder mounting face.
2. Position brake master cylinder as an assembly on studs on power brake booster assembly.
3. Install retaining nuts. Tighten retaining nuts to 21-29 Nm (16-21 ft. lbs.).
4. Install primary and secondary brake tubes to master cylinder outlet ports. Tighten to 21-29 Nm (16-21 ft. lbs.).
5. Connect HCU supply hose to brake master cylinder reservoir fitting and secure with hose clamp.
6. Connect brake warning indicator switch connector.
7. Fill brake master cylinder with specified brake fluid to MAX line or 4.0 mm (0.16 inch) below MAX line on hydraulic control unit reservoir. Use DOT-3 motor vehicle brake fluid.
8. Bleed brake system.
9. Operate brakes several times; check for external hydraulic leaks. Leak Checks
10. Retest brake system.
