Drum Brake System: Service and Repair

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove brake shoe adjusting screw spring. Spread rear brake shoes and linings apart at top.
2. Remove brake adjuster screw and brake shoe adjusting lever.
3. Separate brake shoe adjusting screw socket from adjusting screw and remove adjusting pivot nut.
4. Clean and inspect threads for nicks, burrs and freedom of movement. If brake shoe adjusting screw socket is frozen, it must be replaced.

ASSEMBLY
1. Apply a light coat of premium long life grease to threaded area of adjusting screw and brake shoe adjusting screw socket.
2. Assemble brake adjuster.
3. Turn pivot nut all the way down on screw, then back off one turn.
