Disc Brake System: Testing and Inspection
NOTE:^ This procedure applies to components of front and rear disc brakes.
^ Brake friction materials inherently generate noise and heat to dissipate energy. As a result, occasional squeal is possible and it is aggravated by severe environmental conditions such as cold, heat, wet, snow, salt, mud and other conditions.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the wheel and tire.
2. Inspect brake shoes and linings for wear. If the lining is worn to within 3 mm (.118 inch) of the shoe, replace all four brake shoes and linings (complete axle set) on front or rear wheel as required.
3. Visually check the disc brake caliper(s).
^ If the disc brake caliper housing is leaking, it must be replaced.
^ If a seal is leaking, the disc brake caliper must be disassembled and new seals installed.
^ If a piston is seized in the bore, a new caliper is required.
