Idle Speed: Adjustments

1. Apply the parking brake and make sure that the vehicle is in the NEUTRAL (N) or PARK (P) position.
2. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
3. Turn OFF all electrical loads and accessories.

4. Use a jumper wire to connect the GROUND terminal to the TEN terminal on the Data Link Connector (DLC).

5. Connect the tachometer positive lead of Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent to the IG terminal on the DLC and the tachometer negative lead to the negative battery post.

NOTE: Do not check the idle speed while the electric cooling fan is operating.

NOTE: When the parking brake is not applied, the idle speed for automatic transaxle vehicles (Canada) is approximately 800 rpm.

6. Check the vehicle's idle speed using the tachometer. The idle speed should be 700-800 rpm.

7. If the idle speed is not within specification, adjust the idle speed by turning the idle speed adjusting screw until the idle speed is within specification.
8. Remove the jumper wire from the DLC.
9. Remove the tachometer.
