On-Board System Readiness

NOTE: This procedure is written assuming the use of a New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester. If a generic OBD II scan tool is used, it will be necessary to follow the instructions supplied by the manufacturer of the scan tool.

DESCRIPTION
All OBD II scan tools should display the On-Board System Readiness (OSR) Test. The OSR will display the supported monitors on the vehicle and the status of all monitors (complete or not complete) at that time. If any monitor is not complete, the scan tools will identify which monitor has not completed. Fuel, misfire and comprehensive components are continuous type monitors and won't display complete or not complete.

PROCEDURE USING NEW GENERATION STAR TESTER
- Perform the necessary vehicle preparation and visual inspection.

- Connect scan tool to the OBD II Data Link Connector (DLC).

- Select VEHICLE & ENGINE SELECTION menu (OPTIONAL).

- Select SELECT NEW VEHICLE YEAR & MODEL.

- Select year, engine, model with the appropriate qualifier, if needed (i.e., transmission type, 49 State, California).

- Follow operating instructions from the menu.

- Select GENERIC OBD II FUNCTIONS.

NOTE: If all the monitors are not complete, the monitor statuses can be displayed.

- Press TEST button to display monitor statuses.
