Distributor: Description and Operation
Distributor:
The distributor directs high voltage ignition coil output to the spark plugs in proper sequence (firing order).
It is mounted on the rear (flywheel end) of the cylinder head and is direct driven by the camshaft at one-half crankshaft speed. Two drive tangs on the distributor shaft engage with two slots in the camshaft. Rotation is counterclockwise as seen from the LH side of the vehicle. Ignition timing is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
