Removal and Installation

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect the ignition coil to distributor high tension wiring from the distributor.

Distributor Cap:





3. Remove the two distributor cap screws.
4. Pull off the distributor cap and position it aside.

Distributor Unit:





5. Disconnect the distributor electrical connector.
6. If the distributor is not being replaced, make a reference mark across the distributor base flange and the cylinder head. This reference mark will allow installation without changing the timing.

Distributor:





7. Remove the two distributor bolts and the distributor.

Base Gasket:





8. If necessary, remove the distributor base gasket from the distributor.

INSTALLATION
1. If necessary, install a new distributor base gasket on the distributor.

Distributor Unit:





CAUTION: The distributor can only be installed in one direction. Be careful not to force it into position. When installing the distributor, be sure that the drive tangs engage the camshaft slots.

2. Position the distributor and install the two distributor bolts.
3. Align the reference marks made during removal and tighten the distributor bolts to 19-25 Nm (14-19 lb ft).
4. Connect the distributor electrical connector.
5. Install the distributor cap and tighten the distributor cap screws to 1.6-3.0 Nm (14-26 lb in).
6. Connect the ignition coil to distributor high tension wiring to the distributor cap.
7. Connect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: If a new distributor has been installed, the ignition timing should be checked and adjusted.

8. Check for proper operation.
