Clearing Trouble Codes
NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide procedures other than those described to retrieve or clear trouble codes.
There are three tools used to erase diagnostic trouble codes. One is an analog VOM, another is the Rotunda Super STAR II Tester 007-0041B and the final one is the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500. The procedure using these tools is described below.
NOTES:
- The anti-lock brake warning indicator should illuminate while performing memory cancel.
- When memory cancel operation is completed, the anti-lock brake warning indicator should illuminate for 2-3 seconds, then go off.
- After memory cancel, the anti-lock brake control module performs self-diagnosis.
- Memory is not canceled by disconnecting the battery.
- Memory codes cannot be canceled if the following occur:
a. Intervals for depressing the brake pedal exceed one (1) second.
b. Stoplamp miniature bulb or Brake ON/OFF (BOO) switch has malfunctioned.
- If using analog VOM, be sure to remove the jumper wire from the data link connector after all checks and repairs are made.
To erase diagnostic trouble codes, perform the following steps:
1. If using an analog VOM, connect pins "TBS" and "GND" at data link connector with jumper wire. If using the Rotunda Super STAR II Tester 007-0041B or Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500, connect the Super STAR II Tester or NGS Tester to the data link connector with Rotunda Super MECS Adapter 007-00052.
2. Key ON.
3. Output diagnostic trouble codes.
4. After the first code is repeated, depress the brake pedal 10 times at intervals of less than one (1) second.
5. Key OFF.
6. Disconnect the jumper wire, Super STAR II Tester, or NGS Tester from the data link connector.
