Instrument Panel - Replacement
REMOVAL
WARNING: The airbag backup power supply must be depleted before component service is performed. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute for airbag backup power supply to be depleted.
Glove Compartment:
2. Remove the two hinge-to-instrument panel screws and remove the glove compartment.
3. Remove the passenger airbag module.
WARNING: When carrying a live air bag, make sure the bag and trim cover are pointed away from your body. In the unlikely event of an accidental deployment, the bag will then deploy with minimal chance of injury. In addition, when placing a live air bag on a bench or other surface, always face the bag and trim cover up. This will reduce the motion of the module if it is accidentally deployed.
4. Remove the instrument panel finish panel and the instrument cluster.
5. Detach the hood latch control handle and cable from the instrument panel steering column cover.
Instrument Panel:
6. Carefully pry out both instrument panel end panels.
Instrument Panel:
Rheostat:
7. Remove the four screws and the instrument panel steering column cover. Disconnect all necessary electrical connectors.
8. Remove the climate control assembly.
9. Open the instrument panel ash receptacle.
10. Push the instrument panel ash receptacle lid downward and pull the receptacle out of the center accessory console.
Accessory Console:
11. Remove the seven center accessory console screws.
12. Disconnect the radio antenna, radio chassis electrical connectors, and cigar lighter knob and element connector.
13. Remove the accessory console with the radio chassis and the cigar lighter knob and element.
Instrument Panel:
14. If necessary, remove the screws and the RH instrument panel.
15. Remove the center console.
Control Box Cover:
16. Remove the push pins, and the left and right control box side covers.
Air Bag Diagnostic Module And Premium Sound Amplifier:
17. Slide the air bag diagnostic monitor off of the mounting bracket.
Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor:
18. Disconnect the two air bag diagnostic monitor electrical connectors.
19. Disconnect the radio premium sound amplifier connectors, if equipped.
Instrument Panel:
20. Remove the four bolts attaching the instrument panel reinforcement to the front floor pan.
21. Remove the four air bag diagnostic monitor bracket bolts and remove the bracket.
Lower Instrument Panel:
22. Remove the lower instrument panel bolts.
Instrument Panel:
23. Remove the two bolts from both of the upper instrument panel mounts.
Upper Finish Panel:
24. Remove the screw and the instrument panel upper finish panel.
25. Remove the three bolts that attach the upper instrument panel to the cowl.
26. Pull the instrument panel slightly away from the mounting position and ensure all electrical connectors are disconnected. Detach the LH and RH side window demister hoses from the defroster hose nozzles.
NOTE: Use care to prevent any damage to the instrument panel or the surrounding interior trim.
Instrument Panel:
27. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
