Diagnostic Instructions

The Symptom Chart may be used to help locate the service conditions if no DTCs are retrieved and the listed symptoms are observed. Whether or not the listed symptoms are observed, always:

1. Retrieve all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) stored in the air bag diagnostic monitor memory by executing the DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES RETRIEVE / CLEAR CONTINUOUS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES.

2. Run the ON-DEMAND SELF TEST to determine what trouble codes are currently being sensed by the air bag diagnostic monitor.

3. If the stored diagnostic trouble codes are different than the current diagnostic trouble codes, always service the current diagnostic trouble codes first.

4. If different continuous diagnostic trouble codes are displayed from memory than ON-DEMAND SELF TEST, service in the following order:

(1) ON-DEMAND SELF TEST

(2) Memory (GET/CLEAR CONTINUOUS DTC)

NOTE:Please remember that a diagnostic trouble code may indicate several faults. The diagnostic trouble codes are to assist in system diagnosis and are not to be considered definitive. Always refer to the pinpoint test corresponding to the diagnostic trouble code to determine where the fault lies and to properly service the fault.

The Supplemental Air Bag System Diagnostics Can Be Divided Into Three Sections:

- Diagnostic test modes

- PID / data monitor and record

- Active command modes
