Displaying and Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes
NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to retrieve or clear trouble codes. Code retrieval is integrated into the EATC Module Self-Test. Ford DOES NOT provide an alternate procedure for performing the Self-Test with an NGS or generic tester.UNIT SELF TEST
NOTE: Intermittent (run time) trouble codes will be deleted after 80 ignition cycles.
1. Use the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500, Service Bay Diagnostic (SBDS), or equivalent connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC) to retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for the remote climate control module.
2. The remote climate control module is capable of displaying both self-test faults and intermittent (run time) faults on the integrated control panel. To obtain these codes, perform the following EATC on-board diagnostics test:
a. On-board diagnostics should be run in ambient temperatures of at least 10° C (50° F). Record all diagnostic trouble codes displayed during the diagnostic test mode.
b. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
c. Push both the OFF and the FLOOR buttons simultaneously, then press AUTO within two seconds.
d. The test may run as long as 30 seconds while the display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window.
Diagnostic Trouble Code Index:
e. After about 20 seconds, a diagnostic trouble code will appear in the display. The Diagnostic Trouble Code Index will identify the proper diagnostic procedures.
f. To exit the diagnostic test mode, press the blue button. When the EATC system assembly is turned back on, the A/C air temperature control door will self-calibrate for 20 seconds.
3. If the self-test passed and no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Electronic Climate Control
4. If Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are retrieved, see the DTC Code Index to continue diagnostics.
5. If the remote climate control module cannot be accessed by the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 007-00500 or equivalent, GO to Pinpoint Test C. C: No Module Communication
