Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair






NOTE: Do not begin this procedure unless following parts are available: new front axle hub nut, lower ball joint to lower suspension arm nut and driveshaft bearing retainer circlip. Once removed these parts must not be reused. Their torque-holding ability or retention capability is diminished during removal.

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove front tire and wheel assemblies.
3. Remove halfshaft assemblies.





4. Install front cover seal replacer T74P-6700-A, or equivalent, with 5 1/2 inch forcing screw T88T-6701-A, or equivalents into lefthand differential seal.
5. Turn forcing screw until outer metal seal protector part of differential seal is removed. Remove outer metal seal protector from tool and discard.
6. Install seal replacer tool and forcing screw into seal portion of differential seal, then tighten forcing screw until seal portion is removed and discard seal.

Differential Seal Removal:





7. Install step plate adapter D80L-630-A, or equivalent, into righthand differential fluid seal opening.
8. Turn front cover seal replacer T74P-6700-A and forcing screw T88T-6701-A, or equivalents, into metal protector portion of seal.
9. Tighten forcing screw on end of tool until metal portion of seal is removed.
10. Remove metal portion of seal from tool and discard.
11. Install seal removal tool into rubber portion of seal, then tighten tool until seal is removed from transaxle.
12. Reverse procedure to install, using output seal replacer T86P-1177-B, or equivalent, to install differential seals.
