2. To help find the correct hole beneath the rear window trim panel for the center tether anchor bracket, find attached to the instruction sheet four templates. Two of these templates are required for the Taurus vehicle and two are required for the Sable vehicle. Select the correct template for the vehicle affected and cut out the template following the instructions on the template.
3. Position the template on the rear window trim panel so that it aligns with the perimeter of the outer edge of the rear seat speaker. Tape the template down to the trim panel.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR WHEN CUTTING THROUGH THE TRIM PANEL MATERIAL.
NOTE: The top surface of the rear window trim panel has a soft finish material for appearance and a rigid backing material directly beneath for strength.
4. With the template taped down, use a knife (or the equivalent) to poke through the soft finish material surface of the rear window trim panel in the dotted lined areas indicated on the template.
CAUTION: Do not exceed the boundaries of the perforation or the trim panel may be permanently damaged and require replacement.
NOTE: Perforation is found when the knife meets no resistance.
5. Poke through the soft material and probe the area between the dotted lines to find one of the two existing perforations in the rigid backing material directly underneath the dotted lines on template. Carefully cut out both the soft material and aligned rigid material beneath.
6. Select the correct size (long) tether strap anchor bracket from the kit.
7. Insert the anchor bracket through the access opening in the trim panel and slide it downward and rearward as far it will go to correctly position it on top of the body sheet metal located beneath the trim panel.
8. Use an awl or equivalent to align attaching hole in tether anchor bracket with existing hole in body sheet metal.
9. Assemble the flat washer to the tether anchor bracket retaining bolt.
WARNING: BEFORE TIGHTENING THE RETAINING BOLT, MAKE SURE THE ANCHOR BRACKET ASSEMBLY IS STRAIGHT AND NOT COCKED AND THAT THE HOLE IN THE BRACKET IS ALIGNED WITH THE EXISTING HOLE IN THE BODY SHEET METAL LOCATED BENEATH.
WARNING: TIGHTEN THE ANCHOR BRACKET RETAINING BOLT TO SPECIFICATION. OTHERWISE, THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY SECURED AND THE CHILD MAY BE INJURED IN A SUDDEN STOP OR COLLISION.
10. Install the anchor bracket to the sheet metal using the provided tether anchor retaining bolt and washer. Hold top of anchor bracket while tightening the retaining bolt. Tighten the retaining bolt to 17-23 Nm (13-17 lb ft).
11. Grasp the tether anchor and tug it to make sure it is secure.

Wagon without Auxiliary Seat
WARNING: IF THE ANCHOR BOLTS ARE EVER REMOVED, THE HOLE(S) IN THE FLOOR MUST BE SEALED TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF FUMES ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.
On all wagon models, three steel U-shaped load floor anchors are located on the forward auxiliary floor trim panel. The anchors allow attachment of the child safety belt anchor tether. They can be reached by inserting a small screwdriver under the attachment anchor covers and prying them off the anchors.
Tether attachments have been provided on the auxiliary floor front center support for attaching rear (second) seat tether restraints only.
Sedan Rear Window Tray
On sedan models, there are three (one on each side and one near the center) 9 mm (0.35 inch) diameter top tether attachment holes in the rear package tray trim panel structure (behind the rear seat). These holes allow attachment of the child safety belt anchor tether hardware supplied with the child's safety seat (if required). For easy identification, these holes are marked with the letter "T" stamped behind the hole.
