Passenger's Side





NOTE: If the passenger side air bag module did not deploy in a collision, it may not have been needed. Complete all diagnostics before replacing the passenger side air bag module.

REMOVAL

WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE BATTERY (10655). TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

1. Record pre-set radio frequencies for reprogramming following completion of service procedures.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Wait one minute for back-up power supply energy to be depleted.

NOTE: The passenger side air bag module trim cover is retained by snap-in tabs.

4. Remove passenger side air bag module trim cover from instrument panel.
5. Open glove compartment, press sides inward and lower glove compartment to floor.
6. Through glove compartment opening, remove two passenger air bag module retaining screws.

WARNING: PLACE AIR BAG MODULE ON BENCH WITH TRIM COVER FACING UP TO AVOID POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.

7. Disconnect two electrical connectors and remove passenger side air bag module.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Fill out and return air bag traceability postcard for new air bag with VIN numbers and note diagnostic trouble code.

1. Connect two electrical connectors to passenger side air bag module and position passenger side air bag module in instrument panel.
2. Install two module retaining bolts. Tighten to 7.6-10.4 Nm (6-8 lb ft).
3. Return glove compartment to correct position.
4. Install passenger side air bag trim cover by snapping into place on the instrument panel.
5. Reconnect battery ground cable.
6. Prove out air bag system.
7. Reprogram radio frequencies and set clock.
