Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Perform Fuel System Pre-Service and Fuel Pressure Release procedure as outlined under Fuel Delivery And Air Induction/Service And Repair.
2. Remove vacuum line at fuel pressure regulator.
3. Remove two fuel injection supply manifold-to-intake manifold retaining bolts. Carefully lift fuel injection supply manifold (regulator side only) off of fuel injectors to gain access to the fuel pressure regulator retaining screws.
4. Remove the two Allen head retaining screws from the fuel pressure regulator housing and discard.
5. Remove the fuel pressure regulator, return seal, and O-rings.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate new fuel pressure regulator O-rings using clean engine oil XO-10W-30-QSP or DSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C153-E.
NOTE: If scrapping is necessary, do not damage fuel pressure regulator or fuel injection supply manifold sealing surfaces.
2. Make sure sealing surfaces of fuel pressure regulator and fuel injection supply manifold are clean.
3. Install new fuel pressure regulator return seal and O-rings on fuel pressure regulator fuel rail return port.
4. Using new Allen head retaining screws, install fuel pressure regulator onto fuel injection supply manifold. Tighten the three retaining screws to 3.75 Nm (33 lb in).
5. Carefully install the fuel injection supply manifold to the fuel injectors. If fuel injectors were completely disengaged from the the fuel injection supply manifold cups, lubricate O-rings using clean engine oil XO-10W-30-QSP or DSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C153-E prior to inserting into fuel injection supply manifold cups. Push fuel injection supply manifold down onto fuel injectors and tighten retaining bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb in) while holding down on fuel injection supply manifold.
6. Perform fuel system post service procedures as outlined
