4-Valve 3.0L Installation

POWER STEERING GEAR SHORT ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure and add the following Steps 2-9.

2. Mount new steering gear assembly in Bench Mounted Holding Fixture T57L-500-B.

3. Position rack and pinion steering gear so that several steering gear teeth are exposed. Hold steering gear with an adjustable wrench on end teeth only, while tightening inner tie rods. Torque to 90-110 N.m (66-81 lb-ft).

4. Apply Steering Gear Grease (C3AZ-19518-A, or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C119-A) to groove in connecting rods where tie rod bellows clamp to front wheel spindle tie rod and uniformly to inner diameter of bellows. Install bellows and gear rack tube onto short rack.

5. Install new inner and outer bellows clamps.

6. Remove protective caps from hoses, old Teflon 0-rings from pressure and return hoses. Using Seal Replacer (D90P-3517-A), or equivalent, install new Teflon 0-rings on pressure and return hoses.

7. Fill and purge power steering system.

8. Check operation.

9. Adjust and set toe.
