Warning Indicators

The indicators and warning indicators in the instrument cluster are:
1. charging system
2. safety belt
3. brakes
4. high beams
5. low oil pressure
6. left turn signal
7. right turn signal
8. SERVICE ENGINE SOON (Malfunction Indicator Lamp - MIL).
9. anti-lock (ABS)
10. air bag
11. door ajar
12. low washer fluid
13. THEFT
14. REAR LAMP OUT
15. CRUISE
16. Overdrive off (O/D OFF)
17. low fuel
18. LOW COOLANT
and are not serviceable separately.

The following is the description of all warning indicators displayed by the instrument cluster.

BRAKE SYSTEM
This warning is displayed when:
1. Parking brake is set or not fully released.
2. There is a concern in the braking system.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKES
Anti-lock warning (circle symbol containing the letters ABS) is displayed when there is a concern in the anti-lock braking system.

SERVICE ENGINE SOON (MIL)
The service engine soon (MIL) warning is illuminated by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

CHARGING SYSTEM
Charging system warning (battery symbol) is displayed when there is a concern in the charging system.
1. The charging system warning (battery symbol) remains lit continuously while the concern is present.
2. It goes out when the concern is resolved.

LOW OIL PRESSURE
If the oil pressure drops below the normal range, the low oil pressure warning (oil can symbol) lights continuously. When the oil pressure returns to normal, the warning goes out.

LOW COOLANT
The engine coolant level indicator illuminates when:
1. The ignition switch is turned to RUN with engine off.
2. Engine coolant level drops below required levels.

LOW WASHER FLUID
The low washer fluid level signal comes from a windshield washer reservoir fluid level sensor:
1. Located in the windshield washer reservoir.
2. Is powered by the multi-function switch.
3. Detects when the washer fluid level is low.

AIR BAG
Air bag warning (person seated with air bag deployed symbol) indicator illuminates when there is a concern in the air bag system.

SAFETY BELT
Safety belt warning operates as follows:
1. If driver safety belt is not fastened with ignition switch turned to RUN, the SAFETY BELT warning will illuminate steadily for approximately one minute.
2. The safety belt warning chime will also sound for approximately 6 (+/- 2) seconds.
3. If the driver fastens the safety belt while the safety belt warning is illuminated or safety belt warning chime sounds, they will turn off immediately.
4. The signal for both the warning indicator and safety belt warning chime come from the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

LOW FUEL
The low fuel warning (fuel pump symbol) illuminates when the fuel gauge indicates 1/16 of a tank remaining.

DOOR AJAR
The door ajar warning (open door symbol) is illuminated whenever the GEM detects a door or liftgate open or not completely closed.

REAR LAMP OUT
REAR LAMP OUT warning indicator operates as follows:
1. Indicates a stoplamp burn-out when the brake pedal is applied.
2. Indicates a rear parking lamp burnout when the headlamp switch is turned to either the parking lamp or headlamp position.

HIGH BEAM
This indicator is displayed when the high-beam headlamp bulbs are on.

LH/RH TURN
LH/RH turn signal (arrow symbols) will:
1. Light when the multi-function switch is actuated to indicate left or right turn.
2. Will flash ON and OFF in unison with the front and rear outside turn signals.
3. Both flash when the hazard switch is activated.

OVERDRIVE OFF
The O/D OFF indicator, when illuminated:
1. Indicates the transmission control switch has been pressed locking out overdrive range.
2. Push the transmission control switch to turn off indicator and enable overdrive operations.

THEFT
The THEFT warning indicator, when illuminated indicates the alarm system is active.

CRUISE
The CRUISE indicator:
1. Is located in the RH pod of the instrument cluster.
2. Illuminates when the speed control system is activated.
3. Remains illuminated until speed control is switched off.
