Timing Chain: Service and Repair
NOTE: Ford does not provide a TDC (Top Dead Center) mark or determination procedure for this engine in this vehicle.
ALLDATA users have reported success using aftermarket tools to determine TDC on this engine.
1. Remove front engine cover.

2. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC) and timing marks are aligned.
3. Remove camshaft sprocket retaining bolt and washer.
4. Inspect timing chain deflection for excessive wear.
5. Slide sprockets and timing chain forward and remove as an assembly.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Slide timing chain and sprockets on with timing marks aligned.
CAUTION: The camshaft bolt is a special oil transferring part. Do not replace with a standard bolt.
