1. Remove upper intake manifold.2. Relieve fuel system pressure.
3. Disconnect fuel lines as follows:
a. Remove clip from spring lock coupling.
Fig. 9 Fuel Line Tool Installation:
b. Position fuel line disconnect tool D87L-9280-A, D87L-9280-B, or equivalent, onto coupling.
c. Push disconnect tool into cage opening to release female fitting from garter spring.
d. Pull male and female fittings apart, then remove disconnect tool from coupling.
e. Inspect coupling for missing or damaged O-rings. If either O-ring is damaged, both O-rings have to be replaced.
4. Remove vacuum lines.
NOTE: Mark vacuum lines for installation reference.
5. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from camshaft position sensor, ignition coil and water temperature sending unit.
6. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring retainers from valve cover stud bolts.
7. Carefully disconnect all fuel injector connectors, then position sensor wiring out of the way.
8. Remove ignition wires from spark plugs, then the harness retainers from valve cover stud bolts.
9. Remove camshaft position sensor.
10. Remove ignition coil from rear of lefthand cylinder head.
11. Remove valve covers.
12. Loosen cylinder No. 3 intake valve rocker arm seat retaining bolt and rotate rocker arm off of push rod and away from top of valve stem, then remove push rod.
13. Remove lower intake manifold bolts, then using a pry bar, break seal between lower intake manifold and cylinder block.
14. Remove lower intake manifold, fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors as an assembly.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lightly oil bolts and studs prior to installation.
b. Clean all mating surfaces. When scraping old gasket material lay a clean cloth in the valve lifter valley to catch gasket material.
Fig. 10 Lower Intake Manifold:
c. Apply a drop of silicone rubber part No. D6AZ-19562-AA, or equivalent, to intersection of cylinder block and cylinder head.
d. Install front and rear intake manifold seals as shown.
e. Torque bolts in two steps: first step to 15-22 ft lb, second step to 20-24 ft lb.
f. Prior to installing camshaft position sensor coat entire surface of sensor with engine assembly lubricant part No. D9AZ-19579-D, or equivalent.
g. Apply clean engine oil to No. 3 intake valve, push rod and rocker arm.
h. Prior to tightening rocker arm, rotate crankshaft to position camshaft lobe straight down and away from valve lifter.
