Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Pump brake pedal several times to exhaust any vacuum in the booster.
2. Disconnect vacuum hose from booster unit.
3. Disconnect air cleaner cover and position aside.
4. Remove speed control actuator nuts, then position actuator aside.
5. Disconnect brake fluid level sensor from master cylinder.
6. Remove nut holding cowl top inner panel tube to master cylinder mounting stud, then remove master cylinder.
7. Working under instrument panel, disconnect electrical connector from stop lamp switch.
8. Remove stop lamp switch retaining pin and white nylon washer. Slide switch off brake pedal pin enough so outer plate of switch clears the pin, then remove switch from pin.
9. Remove brake booster-to-dash panel attaching nuts, then slide booster pushrod and pushrod bushing off brake pedal pin.
10. Slide booster out of panel.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure proper clearance between pushrod and master cylinder exists.
b. Bleed brake hydraulic system. Refer to Brake Bleeding.
c. Torque booster to dash panel retaining nuts and cowl top inner panel tube nut to 16-21 ft lb.
d. Torque master cylinder-to-booster locking nuts to 19-28 ft lb.
