Removal

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. Slide brake drum off hub.
4. Remove rear hub cap grease seal and discard.
5. Remove rear axle wheel hub retainer.
6. Remove rear hub assembly from rear wheel spindle.
7. Remove parking brake cable from parking brake lever.
8. Remove two shoe hold-down springs and pins.

Lifting Brake Shoe Assembly Off Backing Plate:
9. Lift brake shoes, springs, and adjuster assembly off backing plate and wheel cylinder assembly.
CAUTION: Be careful not to bend adjusting lever during assembly removal.
10. Remove retracting springs from lower brake shoe attachments and upper shoe to adjusting lever attachment points. This will separate brake shoes and disengage adjuster mechanism.
11. Remove horseshoe retaining clip and spring washer and remove from trailing shoe.
