Removal and Installation
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery cables and remove battery
Radiator And Cooling Fan Wire Support:
2. Secure radiator and engine cooling fan motor, fan blade and shroud to radiator support using suitable wire.
3. Loosen but do not remove upper shock absorber mounting nuts.
4. Remove mass air flow sensor and air cleaner outlet tube with resonator.
5. Remove engine air cleaner and lower bracket.
6. Install engine support tool No. D88L-6OOO-A, or equivalent.
7. Disconnect back-up lamp electrical connector.
8. Remove the bolt holding the ground strap to the transaxle.
9. Remove engine and transaxle support insulator.
10. Disconnect hydraulic line and grommet from bracket.
11. Remove rubber inspection cover from transaxle clutch housing.
12. Disconnect hydraulic line fitting and position aside.
13. Remove upper transaxle to engine bolt.
14. Remove upper starter bolts and ground strap.
15. On models with 2.0L/4-122 engine, remove exhaust manifold heat shield and disconnect catalytic converter at exhaust manifold.
16. On all models, remove front tire and wheel assemblies.
17. Raise and properly support vehicle.
18. On models with 2.0L/4-122 engine, remove catalytic converter,
19. On models with 2.5L/4-153 engine, remove catalytic converter Y-pipe.
20. On all models, remove vehicle speed sensor electrical connector and remove speedometer cable.
21. Remove lower radiator air deflector.
22. Push shift rod completely forward, and remove shift rod pinch bolt Pull shift rod back and remove from transaxle.
23. Remove shift control stabilizer bar and bracket from righthand engine support insulator bracket.
24. Remove underbody heat shield beneath shift control.
25. Position and secure shift rod and stabilizer bar to allow transaxle removal.
26. Remove suction accumulator/drier from front subframe.
27. Remove left and right side halfshafts and intermediate shafts.
28. Remove righthand engine support insulator bracket.
29. Remove lefthand engine support insulator through-bolt.
30. Lower vehicle.
31. Adjust engine support tool No. D88L-6000-A, or equivalent, to remove tension at righthand front engine support bracket.
32. Remove righthand engine support bracket through-bolt.
33. Raise and properly support vehicle.
34. Remove front subframe.
35. Lower vehicle.
36. Loosen front mount nuts five turns.
37. Using suitable floor jack and wood block under transaxle, release tension from engine support tool. Lower transaxle to limits of front engine mount movement.
38. Adjust engine support tool No. D88L-6000-A, or equivalent, to hold engine.
39. Remove floor jack and wood block.
40. Position transmission jack No. 014-002, or equivalent, to transmission. Secure transmission to jack.
41. Remove remaining starter bolts and position aside, supporting starter motor with suitable wire.
42. Remove engine oil pan to transaxle bolts.
43. Remove remaining bolts and separate transaxle from engine, then remove transaxle from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Reverse procedure to install.
