This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to include an revised bracket for vehicles with a manual transmission.

ISSUE:
Incorrect assembly of the intermediate shaft bracket may cause a leak from the RH differential seal and transaxle wearout, noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) concerns, or oil filter damage and subsequent engine issues. The original style of intermediate shaft bracket had two sets of holes, one for CD4E applications, and the other for MTX-75 applications. It was possible to inadvertently use the wrong set of holes when remounting the shaft after starter motor service or other repair.

ACTION:
Use the unique support bracket to correct concern and prevent mismounting. There are now two (2) separate support brackets, one for MTX-75 and one for CD4E. Refer to the following text for details.

Install intermediate shaft assembly into correct mounting holes. Figure 1 shows the old bracket with four (4) holes, which was used for both MTX and CD4E applications. A revised intermediate shaft support bracket (Figure 2) was incorporated during the 1996 model year. The revised part has a unique bracket for MTX-75 and CD4E applications. The bracket is serviced as part of the Intermediate Shaft Assembly. Use F5RZ-3A329-F for CD4E vehicles, and F5RZ-3A329-E for MTX-75 vehicles. The bracket revision minimizes inadvertently using MTX (manual) bracket mounting holes for CD4E (automatic) vehicles by using unique support brackets for each application. The Intermediate Shaft Assembly could contain either the old (Figure 1) or revised support bracket (Figure 2). Use care if the old bracket with four (4) holes is supplied (Figure 1).
