Intermediate Shaft Removal
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove RH halfshaft as described.
3. Remove two nuts from support bracket. Remove intermediate shaft and bearing shield. On 2.0L engine, remove exhaust clamp and two bolts.
4. Remove three bolts and intermediate shaft support bracket, if necessary.
Installation
1. Install three bolts and intermediate shaft support bracket, if removed. Tighten bolts to 21-32 Nm (15-23 lb-ft).
2. CAUTION: Intermediate shaft support bearing and shield has four mounting holes two for automatic transaxle and two for manual transaxle. Position accordingly to prevent damage.
NOTE: Use care to prevent damage to the inboard cv joint stub shaft pilot bearing housing seal (4B416).
Carefully align splines of intermediate shaft with the splines of the differential side gears (4236) and push in intermediate shaft. Install two nuts on intermediate shaft support bracket and bearing shield. Tighten nuts to 24-30 Nm (17-22 lb-ft). On 2.0L engine, install two bolts and exhaust clamp.
