Removal and Installation

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Disconnect transaxle electrical connector, then compress tabs on wiring harness plug outside transaxle case and push plug into case through bore.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transmission fluid.
4. Remove lefthand front fender splash shield, then place a suitable drain pan beneath main control cover assembly.
5. Position cooler lines away from main control cover assembly, then loosen main control cover bolts and allow transmission fluid in main control to drain.
6. Remove main control cover bolts, cover assembly, and gasket, then the 12 main control bolts.
7. Lift main control slightly and disconnect Z-link, then remove main control from transaxle case.
8. As main control is lowered, remove wiring harness and connector.
9. If thermostatic oil level control valve must be removed, first remove bracket bolt and bracket, then pull valve straight out of transaxle case.

INSTALLATION
1. If thermostatic oil level control valve was removed, insert valve into transaxle case and secure with bracket and bolt and tighten.
2. Apply a thin film of petroleum jelly to new 0-ring, then install on solenoid electrical connector.
3. Position main control slightly away from transaxle case, then push electrical connector into its bore until tabs lock in place.






4. Install 12 main control valve body bolts finger tight, then tighten in sequence shown in the Main Control Valve Body Bolt Tightening Sequence image.
5. Remove manual control lever bolt and lever assembly, then use shifter shaft alignment tool No. T94P-77000-H or equivalent to move lever shaft to Drive position. Install pin to hold tool in place.

6. Move manual valve detent lever assembly to Drive position, then loosen ball stud nut for lever actuating rod assembly.
7. Use a 10 mm wrench to initially tighten nut on ball, then rotate shifter shaft alignment tool until socket can be placed over nut and tighten.
8. Remove pin and shifter shaft alignment tool, then install manual control lever assembly and bolt and tighten.






9. Position gasket on main control cover assembly, then install cover assembly on transaxle case. Tighten bolts in sequence shown in the Main Control Cover Bolt Loosening/tightening Sequence image.
10. Install lefthand front fender splash shield and transaxle drain plug. Tighten plug, then lower vehicle.
11. Connect transaxle electrical connector and battery ground cable, then fill transaxle with suitable ATF.
12. Start vehicle and shift transaxle through all gear ranges, then check and add fluid as required.
