Forward One-Way Clutch - With CD4E

DISASSEMBLE

Exploded View Of Forward One-Way Clutch And Low/Intermediate Sun Gear:






NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View Of Forward One-Way Clutch And Low/Intermediate Sun Gear image for exploded view of one-way clutch.

1. Remove coast clutch hub retaining ring and hub, then the forward one-way clutch outer race and sprag assembly with end caps.
2. Separate sprag assembly and end caps from outer race.

NOTE: Note end cap positions for installation reference; they are not interchangeable.

3. Remove forward one-way clutch retainer and retaining ring.
4. Clean all parts thoroughly in solvent, then dry with compressed air.

ASSEMBLE
1. Install retaining ring and forward one-way clutch retainer.

NOTE: Retainer tabs must face down.

2. Assemble forward one-way clutch sprag assembly and end caps.

NOTE: Ensure end caps are installed in their original positions.

3. Using sprag replacer tool No. T94P-7700O-J or equivalent, install sprag assembly and end caps in outer race, then invert outer race and sprag assembly and install on forward one-way clutch inner race.

NOTE: Lube grooves must face away from sun gear.

4. Install coast clutch hub and retaining ring.

NOTE: Retaining ring ends must point toward coast clutch hub.

5. With low/intermediate sun gear facing up, check operation of forward one-way clutch as follows:

Low/Intermediate Sun Gear Rotation:






a. While holding outer race with one hand, rotate low/intermediate sun gear clockwise as shown in the Low/Intermediate Sun Gear Rotation image. Sun gear should rotate independently of outer race and should drag slightly.
b. Rotate low/intermediate sun gear in opposite direction. Outer race should rotate with sun gear.
