Accelerator Cable Replacement - 2.5L Engine
1. Open hood.2. Remove coolant recovery reservoir retaining bolts, then slightly raise reservoir.
3. Disconnect low coolant sensor electrical connector and accelerator cable from bottom of coolant recovery reservoir.
4. Position coolant recovery reservoir aside.
5. Remove traction control motor cover. Refer to Figure 12.
6. Disconnect traction control motor electrical connector. Refer to Figure 12.
7. Disconnect accelerator cable from traction control motor. See Figure 12.
8. From inside vehicle, disconnect accelerator cable from accelerator pedal.
9. Push accelerator cable and cable bulkhead grommet into engine compartment.
10. Remove accelerator cable from vehicle.
11. Remove clips from accelerator cable adjusters, if necessary.
12 Remove Exhaust gas recirculation Vacuum Regulator (EVR) solenoid from rear of intake manifold. See Figure 13.
13. Disconnect # 1 cylinder ignition wire from coil pack.
14. On new accelerator cable, measure 12-9/16 inches down from bulkhead fitting and mark cable with a piece of tape. See Figure 14. Make sure the green and yellow bands are flush to the bulkhead fitting before measuring.
15. Position new accelerator cable in the vehicle.
16. Route accelerator cable under vacuum lines, shift cable, EGR connector and between A/C line and brake booster. See Figure 15.
17. From inside vehicle, connect accelerator cable to accelerator pedal. Make sure cable bulkhead grommet is fully seated.
18. Attach retainer W700637-S300 to top stud of Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Secure accelerator cable in the retainer at point marked by the tape. Refer to Figure 15. Accelerator cable should be close to, but not touching, brake booster.
19. Connect accelerator cable to traction control motor.
20. Attach retainer W700471-5300 to ignition control module bracket. See Figure 16. Secure accelerator cable to retainer.
21. Connect low coolant sensor electrical connector and accelerator cable from bottom of coolant recovery reservoir.
22. Install coolant recovery reservoir. Tighten screws securely.
23. Connect # 1 cylinder ignition wire to coil pack.
24. Adjust accelerator cables as follows:
^ Make sure clips from both accelerator cable adjusters are removed. See Figure 17.
^ Pull accelerator cable housings away from both adjusters to slacken cables. See Figure 18.
^ Remove accelerator cable from throttle body lever and cable bracket.
^ Place a 1.3 mm (0.05 inch) wire through traction control motor pulley alignment holes. See Figure 19. The wire should not contact motor housing.
^ Using prop tool, fully depress and hold accelerator pedal (this will set the first adjuster).
^ Install clip into adjuster on the accelerator pedal to traction control motor cable. See Figure 20.
^ Remove prop tool from accelerator pedal.
^ Connect accelerator cable to throttle body lever and cable bracket.
^ Fully depress and hold the accelerator pedal again (this will set the second adjuster).
^ Fine tune second adjuster: Pull accelerator cable housing out of adjuster until wide open throttle (WOT) at throttle body is achieved, then install clip to lock cable and adjuster. See Figure 21. Observe position of throttle body air valve to ensure WOT is achieved.
^ Remove prop tool from accelerator pedal.
^ Remove wire from traction control motor pulleys.
^ Make sure the throttle body air valve moves to WOT position when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed. (If throttle body does not move to WOT position, the adjuster may be moved one notch to achieve WOT.)
^ With the accelerator in idle position, check the position of throttle body air valve. Air valve should be closed and accelerator cable should deflect 1-3 mm (0.04-0.12 inch) midway between accelerator cable bracket and throttle body lever.
25. Install traction control motor electrical connector and cover.
