Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Place manual control lever in NEUTRAL.
3. Remove engine intake air resonator and Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
4. Disconnect electrical harness from Transmission Range (TR) sensor.
5. Remove two retaining bolts.
6. Remove TR sensor.
INSTALLATION
1. Ensure manual lever is in NEUTRAL position.
2. Install TR sensor and loosely install retaining bolts.
3. Align TR sensor slots using TR Sensor Tool T94P-70010-AH.
4. Tighten retaining bolts to 9-12 Nm (7-9 lb ft) and remove tool.
5. Connect electrical harness to TR sensor.
6. Install air intake resonator and MAF sensor.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. Check for proper operation with parking brake control engaged. The engine should only start in PARK or NEUTRAL. Back-up lamps should activate only in the REVERSE position.
