Field Descriptions
PURPOSEThe Expanded Diagnostic Protocol (EDP) mode accesses enhanced diagnostic information to repair emission related faults. This information may be required by the manufacturer to diagnose components and sensors that affect vehicle emissions.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTES
Refer to the Field Descriptions for basic string formats that are common throughout the automotive industry. The strings have seven fields separated by a special character (usually a comma).
FIELD DESCRIPTIONS:
Example Of A Character String For Accessing The Brake On/Off (BOO) PID:
FIELD #1 - STRING ID NUMBER
Any two hexadecimal characters entered.
FIELD #2- STRING TOTAL DIGIT COUNT
Total count of characters in the string including field separators and ID number.
FIELD #3- TRANSMIT TYPE
Transmit, receive types.
FIELD #4- TRANSMIT FIELD
Message priority, module identification, diagnostic routing and test number
FIELD #5- RECEIVE FILTER FIELD (may be blank)
FIELD #6- RECEIVE DATA PROCESSING FIELD
Clear screen, position cursor, ASCII code for text display, provide spacing, data conversion, byte number containing information and code for altering execution.
FIELD #7- DATA SECURITY VERIFICATION (DSV)
Total hexadecimal ASCII value of all characters in the EDP string.
