Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair
SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S) REQUIREDSpring Lock Coupling DIsconnect Tool (1/2 in.) T81P-19623-G2
REMOVAL
NOTE:
- Whenever an A/C condenser core replaced, it is necessary that the suction accumulator/drier also be replaced.
- If an A/C condenser core leak is suspected, the A/C condenser core must be leak-tested before it is removed from the vehicle.
1. From inside vehicle, pull hood lock release handle to release hood.
2. Lift hood and support with hood support rod.
3. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system at the service access gauge port valve located on the suction line. Observe all safety precautions. Refrigerant Recovery
4. Temporarily support radiator with mechanic's wire at upper radiator support.
5. Raise vehicle.
6. Remove radiator air deflector.
7. Disconnect the refrigerant line fittings (spring lock couplings) using Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect Tool T81P-19623-G2 or equivalent at the RH side of the A/C condenser core.
CAUTION: A/C condenser core refrigerant lines are connected with spring lock couplings. These couplings require special tools and procedures. Failure to follow these procedures can result in damage to the couplings and refrigerant lines.
8. Remove two screws retaining A/C condenser core to radiator.
9. Remove two screws retaining each lower radiator support to front sub-frame.
10. Disengage the A/C condenser core at top and remove A/C condenser core from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. If the A/C condenser core is to be replaced, add 29.5 ml (1 oz) of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B to the new A/C condenser core.
2. Position the A/C condenser core assembly to the vehicle, making sure the top mounts are properly seated.
3. Install two screws to retain A/C condenser core to radiator. Tighten to 6-7 N.m (54-61 Lb-In).
4. Install two screws in each lower radiator support to front sub-frame. Tighten to 27 N.m (20 Lb-Ft).
5. Connect the refrigerant lines to the A/C condenser core.
6. Install radiator air deflector.
7. Remove mechanic's wire from temporary radiator support.
8. Leak-test, evacuate and charge the system. Observe all safety precautions. Service and Repair
