WARNING: Exhaust system normal operating temperature is very high. Never work around or attempt to service any or part of system until it has cooled. Use special care when working around a three way catalytic converter. These units heat to high temperature in only a short period of engine operation.1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then heated oxygen sensor from engine control sensor wiring.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove Y pipe as follows:
a. Remove front and rear flange pipe fasteners from exhaust manifolds, then stud bolt and nut retainer from oil pan.
b. Remove two remaining nuts and bolts from pipe outlet connection, then discard exhaust converter inlet gasket.
c. Remove pipe.
3. Remove lower radiator hose tube bracket nuts from stud bolts, then exhaust manifold nuts from lefthand cylinder head studs.
4. Position lower radiator hose tube to gain clearance for exhaust manifold removal, then remove lefthand exhaust manifold and exhaust manifold gasket from engine.
5. If necessary, remove heated oxygen sensor from exhaust manifold using oxygen sensor wrench T94P-9472-A, or equivalent. If excessive force is necessary to remove sensor, lubricate sensor with penetrating oil before removal.
Exhaust Manifold Tightening Sequence:
6. Reverse procedure to install. Torque exhaust manifold nuts in sequence, to 13-16 ft lb.
