Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Service and Repair

Mass Air Flow Sensor:






REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Remove air cleaner outlet tube.
3. Remove engine air intake resonator attached to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
4. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring connector from MAF sensor.
5. Release retaining clips from air cleaner cover.
6. Carefully remove MAF sensor. Inspect O-ring for wear or damage and replace as required.

INSTALLATION
1. Position MAF sensor with new O-ring onto air cleaner cover.
2. Secure retaining clips.
3. Install air cleaner outlet tube and engine air intake resonator.
4. Connect engine control sensor wiring connector to MAF sensor.
5. Connect battery ground cable
6. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks.
