This TSB article pertains to all calibrations listed as well as past revisions.

ISSUE:
Stall on acceleration from a stop in hot ambient temperatures above 38°C (100°F) and/or stall while turning during parking lot maneuvers and/or stall after cold start-up in ambient temperatures of 10-27°C (50-80°F) and/or surge on acceleration from a stop or at low speeds may occur on some vehicles. This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration regarding the fuel control system.

ACTION:
Reprogram the PCM. The new calibration has been revised to reduce the possibility of stalls during the subject conditions. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Verify the concern.

2. Perform normal diagnostics as outlined in the appropriate year Contour/Mystique Service Manual.





3. Reprogram the PCM using the Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS) or New Generation Star (NGS) Tester. Refer to the Application Chart for correct calibration usage.

NOTE:
REGIONAL APPROVAL MUST BE OBTAINED TO REPLACE THE PCM





Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
