Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove engine air intake resonators.
2. Disconnect heated oxygen sensor at wiring connector.
3. Remove oil level indicator tube bolt from cylinder head, then, using twisting motion, remove oil level indicator tube from cylinder block.
4. Remove lefthand exhaust manifold heat shield retainers, then lefthand exhaust manifold heat shield from engine.
5. Raise and support vehicle, then remove heated oxygen sensor as follows:
a. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from oxygen sensor, then oxygen sensor wiring lead from fan shroud retainer.
b. Remove oxygen sensor from exhaust manifold using oxygen sensor wrench T94P-9472-A, or equivalent.
6. Remove three way catalytic converter as follows:
a. Remove outlet flange nuts, then muffler and exhaust converter outlet gasket from converter.
b. Remove EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube bracket and clamp from converter.
c. Lower vehicle, then remove heat shield and converter nuts from exhaust manifold.
d. Remove converter and converter inlet gasket from exhaust manifold, then discard exhaust converter inlet gasket.
7. Lower vehicle, then remove exhaust manifold nuts from cylinder head studs.
8. Remove exhaust manifold and gasket from engine.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
