Oil Pump: Service and Repair




Ford does not provide camshaft gear timing marks, or information to perform timing belt service without the special tools shown in the timing belt service and repair procedure. Timing Belt


1. Remove timing covers.
2. Remove timing belt, then crankshaft sprocket.
3. Remove oil pan, then oil pump screen cover and tube.
4. Remove oil bypass filter.
5. Remove oil pump bolts, then pump from cylinder block. Inspect pump and replace as necessary.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Clean oil pump to cylinder block gasket sealing surfaces with wire brush. Use care to prevent damaging sealing surfaces.
b. Rotate oil pump inner rotor to align with flats on crankshaft, then install pump with new gasket flush to cylinder block at oil pan sealing surface, using straight edge. Clearance between oil pan and oil pump sealing surfaces should not exceed 0.012-0.031 inch.
7. Fill crankcase to proper level with specified engine oil, then run engine and check for leaks.
