Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation





PURPOSE
- Fuel vapors from the fuel tank and air cleaner assembly are stored in the carbon canister.

OPERATION
- When the vehicle is operated, the vapors will purge from the canister into the engine for combustion.

CONSTRUCTION
- Contained in the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Canister are 925 ml (2-pints) of activated carbon, referred to as the carbon bed. Activated carbon has the ability to purge (release) stored fuel vapors when exposed to fresh air flow.
