Removal and Disassembly

Rear Axle:

1. Remove rear axle assembly from vehicle, then remove axle cover.
2. Place axle carrier in holding fixture T57L-500-B, or equivalent, with housing spreader adapters T93P-0.000-A, and dial indicator base D78P-4201-F, or equivalents attached.

Carrier Spreading:

3. Install carrier spreader TOOL-4000-E, or equivalent, to spreader adapters, then install a suitable dial gauge and brackets.
4. Zero dial gauge, then spread differential carrier 0.030 in.
5. Mark differential bearing caps righthand and lefthand, noting direction of arrows cast into bearing caps.

Case Removal:

6. Place wood blocks into differential carrier, then pry differential case out of housing. Wood blocks must be used to prevent damage to carrier.
7. Place differential case into a suitable soft jaw vise, then remove ring gear bolts.
8. Use a suitable drift punch to tap ring gear from case.
