Due to timing constraints, this TSB article was not published in TSB 96-5. Refer to this TSB article for all 4R70W transmissions having "REFER TO TSB 96-5" yellow stickers on the transmission pan.








ISSUE:
Some 4R70W transmissions were built with a unique case and require a spacer to be installed between the low/reverse servo cover and retaining ring. The subject transmissions will have an orange dot on the bottom of the converter housing (Figure 1) and a yellow sticker on the transmission pan (Figure 2).








ACTION:
When servicing one of these unique transmissions, refer to the following Service Procedure for special service details. Refer to the Transmission Application Chart to determine if the transmission is unique by referencing the transmission serial numbers located on the bottom of the transmission (Figure 4).

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Refer to Section 07-01 of the appropriate Service Manual and the following list to determine the correct piston to use.





NOTE:
WHEN REPLACING A PISTON, BEGIN WITH A # 1 PISTON (EOAZ-7D189-A). THIS PISTON WITH A SPACER (F6TZ-7D483-AA) REPLACES THE # 2 PISTON ASSEMBLY (EOAZ-7D189-B). REFER TO FIGURE 3.

^ If the procedure calls for a # 3 piston (EOAZ-7D189-C) to be used, install a # 2 piston (EOAZ-7D189-B) (Figure 3).

^ If the procedure calls for a # 2 piston (EOAZ-7D189-B) to be used, install a # 1 piston (EOAZ-7D189-A) (Figure 3).
