Throttle Cable/Linkage: Service and Repair

Accelerator Cable Bracket:

Removal and Installation
1. Using a suitable tool, push the accelerator pedal nylon bushing out of the accelerator pedal and shaft arm.

2. Remove accelerator cable housing from dash panel by removing two screws retaining accelerator cable to dash panel and pushing outward from inside passenger compartment.

3. Remove speed control cable, if so equipped.

4. Remove the throttle body lever snow shield.

5. Disconnect the accelerator cable at the throttle body throttle lever by inserting a screwdriver between the accelerator cable and the throttle lever and giving a twist.

6. Remove the accelerator cable housing to engine mounting bracket retaining screw.

7. Remove accelerator cable from accelerator cable retainer on upper intake manifold brace. Disconnect cruise control from the accelerator cable, if equipped.

8. To install, reverse removal procedure and make sure accelerator cable movement is not restricted. Tighten throttle body lever snow shield nut to 3.4-4.8 Nm (31-42 lb.in.).

Accelerator Pedal and Shaft

Removal and Installation
1. Using a suitable tool, push the accelerator cable nylon bushing out of the accelerator pedal and shaft arm.

2. Remove the two nuts retaining accelerator pedal and shaft to the floor.

3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten accelerator pedal and shaft assembly nuts to 15-20 Nm (12-14 lb.ft.) and make sure accelerator pedal and shaft moves without restrictions.

Accelerator Cable Bracket

Removal and Installation
1. Remove the accelerator cable.

NOTE:If equipped with speed control, remove speed control cable mounting bracket retaining screws and remove the throttle valve cable from the engine bracket by placing a 17 mm wrench on hex portion of plastic moulded fitting and turning.

2. Remove the bolts retaining the accelerator cable mounting bracket to the engine.

3. Remove the cables from the mounting bracket. Remove the bracket.

4. To install, reverse removal procedure and tighten mounting bracket bolts to 14-20 Nm (10-14 lb.ft.).
