Accelerator Cable Bracket:
Removal and Installation
1. Using a suitable tool, push the accelerator cable nylon bushing out of the accelerator pedal and shaft arm.
2. Remove the two accelerator pedal and shaft assembly retaining nuts.
3. If replacing the accelerator pedal and shaft and if the vehicle is equipped with a pedal pad trim cover, uncrimp the pedal pad cover and remove from the accelerator pedal and shaft.
4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten accelerator pedal and shaft nuts to 15-20 Nm (12-15 lb.ft.) and make sure accelerator pedal and shaft has no restrictions.
Accelerator Cable Bracket
Removal and Installation
1. Remove the screw retaining accelerator cable to accelerator cable bracket.
NOTE: On Thunderbird/Cougar applications with speed control, remove the throttle valve cable from the engine bracket using a 17mm wrench. Place the wrench on the hex portion of the plastic moulded fitting and turn.
2. Remove the bolts or nuts securing the accelerator cable bracket to the engine.
3. Lift the accelerator cable out of the accelerator cable bracket.
4. Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
4. To install, reverse removal procedure and tighten accelerator cable bracket bolts to 15-20 Nm (12-15 lb.ft.).
